Scope of Supply

Operational since 2005, the new sewage 80 million treatment works on Reading's Island Road is one of the most technically advanced facilities of its kind in the UK. This was the first completely new plant to be built by Thames Water since privatisation in 1989, and was one of a number of projects undertaken by the company under Asset Management Plan 3 (AMP3).

Target Alliance - a single project alliance partnership of Thames Water with the Black & Veatch/Taylor Woodrow JV - was established to act as main contractor to address the design, construction, installation and commissioning of the civil, process, mechanical and allied works. As a leading switchgear and controlgear provider to the UK Water Industry since 1982, Anord were selected to provide the complete power distribution and control system by the Target Alliance JV. The Anord scope included 2 x 4 MVA transformers, busbar duct, a large dual fed 6300A Main power distribution centre and the full suite of intelligent process MCC's.

All of the Anord works were successfully commissioned on program and the plant is widely viewed as a flagship facility showcasing Thames Water's leading-edge environmental technology - the plant has already won a CEEQUAL Award of Excellence and 'Best Bespoke Industrial Development' at the Industrial Agents Society / Office Agents Society (IAS/OAS) Awards.
